Hi families! Here are our activities and videos for today:
Singing: Teacher Rachel talks about how we are all growing and sings “I Wonder If I’m Growing”.
Science experiment: Shiny pennies. Collect dirty tarnished pennies and have soak them in a small bowl of vinegar with a teaspoon of salt. Within a minute the pennies will be instantly “shined”. For an added bonus, rinse some of the pennies in water after the vinegar dip and then compare them to the vinegar only pennies; if you wait an hour the vinegar pennies will start to oxidize and turn green.

Developing a scientific perspective includes making predictions. “What you think will happen is called your hypothesis!” Have your child create a hypothesis before doing the experiment. “What do you think will happen to the pennies?”

We ask questions to learn. It doesn’t matter whether our prediction is correct, as long as the experiment teaches us something!
An activity for this weekend: Make a Share and Tell video! As we do every weekend, we’re asking you for a short clip (or pictures or a written answer if sending it to us in video format doesn’t work for you!) for our Share and Tell video. Please try to send it by 2pm on Sunday.
For parents: Approaching New and Recurring Behaviors. We are continuing our weekly parents’ video! This week, introducing how to think about and frame children’s behaviors, so that we can talk about how to approach specific behaviors in future videos. Key takeaway: all behavior is communication.
We will be sending out some information about the upcoming phone-call check-in/surveys we’ll be doing with all parents next week. Be on the lookout for that email and sign-up!
