Hi families! Here are our videos and activities for today:

We have transitioned to sending out our weekly activities on Sunday evening. Here is the document with our activities for this week. And here is our countdown chain activity, to countdown to the last day of school.

Content warning: Below, we discuss police violence, death, racism, and George Floyd’s murder.

Today, we are sharing a video with you of Teacher Patricia and Teacher Rachel explaining the story of George Floyd, along with the script for the video. In this video and script, we tell the story of how George Floyd was killed by police officers. Please take time to read over the script and/or watch the video before watching it with your child, to make sure it is something you are prepared to show, be present for, and discuss with your child. You are more than welcome to use the script to guide your own conversation with your child, if you believe that your child might benefit from the information coming directly from you. Please feel free to use the script and edit it so that it can work best for you and your child.

We believe that it is important for children to know this story and believe that clarity and straightforward information supports children in their processing of all that is happening in the world today. Children know that something is happening, and without access to clear information, they might draw their own inaccurate conclusions. We also want to note that, especially for white families, the choice to not talk about police violence is a privilege. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you or your child might have, we are here to support you through this work.

After hearing this information, some children might find it supportive to think of ways to help the protests and cause. Please refer to our activities for this week (linked above) for some ideas about things kids can do to enact real change in our world.

We hope you are all staying safe and taking care of yourselves. We are committed to working alongside you as we all navigate through this difficult, painful, and important time. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sending you love,

Rachel Ford and Patricia Houston
