Hi Redbud families:
In today’s teacher message, Sock and I talk about how we help our houseplants take care of themselves, including one very special thing we do for our plants: we sing to them!
Today’s suggested activity: Singing to your plants, both indoor and outdoor, is more than a sweet mindfulness exercise. It truly helps them grow! If you have plants that you tend to in your home, outside of your home, or any plants within walking distance that are special to you and your little one, consider making a ritual of singing to them. It can be part of your morning or evening routine, or you can decide on a special song to sing to them. You can even make one up! This exercise in empathy and interdependence between people and our plant counterparts may feel especially tender during a time when many of us are unable to be physically present with most of our loved ones. This exercise can be a way to help your little one continue to grow those necessary skills. It’s no substitute for building empathy and interdependence between people, but it can be a start.
We also have news: today is Elias’s birthday! Sock the hand puppet and I sing Happy Birthday! to him, and Elias and his mom read us one of his favorite stories! Happy birthday, Elias!
Lastly, don’t forget to look at our updated resources list to see how you and your little one can engage in work and actions related to the uprisings following George Floyd’s murder.
Sending love and strength to all of you.
